So Delicious Tubby Custard Recipe

We love custard! Tubby Custard recipe is such a versatile dessert––you can make it with any kind of fruit, so it’s perfect for summer.

Here we’re using strawberries, but you could also use raspberries or blueberries. You’ll need some raw cane sugar and cornstarch to thicken the custard and some vanilla extract for flavor.

Here’s Our New England Tubby Custard Recipe

Prepare Time: 10 minutes

Cook Time: 30 minutes

Yield: 6 servings

Recipe Ingredients

  • 2 cups whole milk
  • 1/4 cup cornstarch (or 14 tablespoons of flour)
  • 1/4 cup white sugar (or 7 tablespoons brown sugar)
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract, optional
  • 10 ounces containers of frozen strawberries, or other fruit (and any syrup left)

Step By Step Instructions

Step-1: In a saucepan, sift the sugar and cornstarch together.

Step-2: Cook the sugar, cornstarch, and milk together over medium heat until it starts to thicken. Stir frequently, constantly stirring until the mixture becomes nice and smooth. It’ll start clumping very quickly! Turn off the heat once it’s thick enough to coat a spoon.

Step-3: Add the vanilla extract if desired.

Step-4: In a saucepan over low heat, warm up your strawberries with some syrup from the container (or any fruit) as much as you’d like until they’re warmed through. Set aside for later use in your custard recipe after it’s finished cooking.

Step-5: Beat your custard with a mixer until it’s nice and smooth.

Step-6: Pour your custard into six ramekins or custard cups, filling it up halfway with the custard.

Step-7: Place the ramekins or custard cups (upside down) onto a baking pan, then pour enough hot water over the top of them to fill them up halfway.

Step-8: Bake at 350 degrees F for 20 minutes.

Step-9: Remove from the oven, carefully remove them from water and serve.

Step-10: Enjoy!
