  • 1 cup 2 sticks unsalted butter, softened
  • 4 cups powdered sugar sifted
  • 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
  • 2 –3 tablespoons milk or heavy whipping cream
  • Optional: A pinch of salt to balance sweetness

Instructions
 

Step 1: Cream The Butter

  • In a large mixing bowl, beat the softened butter using a hand or stand mixer on medium speed until it’s creamy and smooth (about 2-3 minutes). This is crucial for achieving that silky frosting texture.
  • Tip: Use room-temperature butter—it blends better and avoids lumps.

Step 2: Add The Sugar Slowly

  • Gradually add the powdered sugar, about 1 cup at a time, mixing on low speed to avoid a sugar cloud in your kitchen.
  • Increase the speed to medium and beat for a further two minutes once all of the sugar has been added.

Step 3: Add Vanilla And Liquid

  • Pour in the vanilla extract and 2 tablespoons of milk or cream. Continue beating until the frosting has the consistency you want.
  • Add extra milk, one teaspoon at a time, if it is too thick. Add a bit extra powdered sugar if it is too thin.

Step 4: Whip It Up

  • Turn the mixer to high and whip the frosting for 3-4 minutes. This step gives it that airy, bakery-style fluffiness we all love.
