Preheat & Prepare – Preheat the oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit , or 175 degrees Celcius. Coat an 8 x 8inch baking pan with shortening or parchment paper for easy release from the pan.
Mix Dry Ingredients – In a mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, cocoa powder, salt, and baking powder. This ensures even distribution and prevents clumping.
Combine Wet Ingredients – In a separate large bowl, whisk together the melted butter and sugar until smooth. Drop eggs in and vanilla extract, and mix well.
Incorporate Dry & Wet Ingredients – Gradually add the dry ingredients into the wet mixture, stirring gently with a spatula until just combined. Be careful not to overmix!
Add Chocolate Chips & Nuts – Fold in the chocolate chips and walnuts if using. This adds extra texture and a deep, chocolatey flavor.
Bake – Pour the batter into the prepared baking dish and spread it evenly. Bake for about 30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out with a few moist crumbs.
Cool & Serve – Before slicing, allow the brownies to cool in the pan for at least 20 minutes. This helps them set properly and prevents crumbling.
