Ingredients

  • 1 cup Devil’s Club inner bark dried and finely chopped
  • 1 cup carrier oil e.g., coconut oil, olive oil
  • 1/4 cup beeswax pellets
  • Optional: 10-15 drops essential oil e.g., lavender, eucalyptus for fragrance
  • Double boiler or heat-safe glass bowl and saucepan

Instructions

Prepare The Devil’s Club Extract:

  • In a double boiler or heat-safe glass bowl placed over a saucepan with water, combine the Devil’s Club inner bark and carrier oil.
  • Gently heat the mixture on low heat for about 1-2 hours, allowing the oil to infuse with the beneficial properties of the bark. Stir occasionally.
  • Once the oil has taken on the essence of the Devil’s Club, strain the mixture through a fine mesh sieve or cheesecloth into a clean container. Discard the spent bark.

Create The Devil’s Club Salve:

  • Return the infused oil to the double boiler or glass bowl.
  • Add the beeswax pellets and stir until completely melted and combined with the oil.
  • If desired, add the optional essential oil for added fragrance and therapeutic benefits.
  • Carefully pour the melted mixture into clean, dry containers such as glass jars or tins. Allow it to cool and solidify before sealing.
