Ingredients
  

  • 1 cup ketchup preferably organic
  • 1/2 cup apple cider vinegar
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar packed
  • 1/4 cup honey
  • 1 tablespoon smoked paprika
  • 1 tablespoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon ground mustard
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground black pepper
  • 1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper optional for a spicy kick
  • Salt to taste

Combine Ingredients

  • In a medium saucepan, combine ketchup, apple cider vinegar, brown sugar, honey, smoked paprika, garlic powder, ground mustard, onion powder, black pepper, and cayenne pepper (if using). Make sure all components are well combined by giving them a good stir.

Simmer

  • After setting the saucepan on medium heat, simmer the mixture. Stir frequently to prevent any ingredients from sticking to the bottom of the pan.

Thicken Sauce

  • Once the sauce reaches the required thickness, reduce the heat to low and simmer it for 15 to 20 minutes. Recall that as it cools, the sauce will get thicker yet.

Adjust Seasonings

  • Taste your BBQ sauce and adjust the salt or spices according to your preference. If you find the sauce too tangy, you can add a bit more honey to balance it out.

Cool And Store

  • After taking the sauce off the stove, let it cool fully. Once cooled, transfer the BBQ sauce to airtight containers or jars and refrigerate. The sauce will keep well for up to 2 weeks.
