Salt to taste
Instructions
Combine Ingredients
In a medium saucepan, combine ketchup, apple cider vinegar, brown sugar, honey, smoked paprika, garlic powder, ground mustard, onion powder, black pepper, and cayenne pepper (if using). Make sure all components are well combined by giving them a good stir.
Simmer
After setting the saucepan on medium heat, simmer the mixture. Stir frequently to prevent any ingredients from sticking to the bottom of the pan.
Thicken Sauce
Once the sauce reaches the required thickness, reduce the heat to low and simmer it for 15 to 20 minutes. Recall that as it cools, the sauce will get thicker yet.
Adjust Seasonings
Taste your BBQ sauce and adjust the salt or spices according to your preference. If you find the sauce too tangy, you can add a bit more honey to balance it out.
Cool And Store
After taking the sauce off the stove, let it cool fully. Once cooled, transfer the BBQ sauce to airtight containers or jars and refrigerate. The sauce will keep well for up to 2 weeks.
