Ingredients
  

  • 1 cup of tomato sauce as a base instead of ketchup for a fresher taste
  • 1/2 cup dark brown sugar for a deep, molasses-like sweetness
  • 1/4 cup white wine vinegar a twist from the traditional apple cider vinegar
  • 2 tablespoons of light soy sauce for an umami kick
  • 1 tablespoon honey Dijon mustard
  • 1 tablespoon smoked paprika
  • 1 teaspoon ground cumin for a warm, earthy note
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • A pinch of cayenne pepper adjust to taste
  • Salt and freshly ground black pepper

Instructions
 

  • Mix the tomato sauce, brown sugar, white wine vinegar, soy sauce, and honey Dijon mustard in a medium saucepan.
  • Stir in the smoked paprika, ground cumin, garlic powder, onion powder, cayenne pepper, salt, and black pepper.
  • Cook over medium heat, bringing the mixture to a gentle simmer.
  • Reduce the heat and let it simmer for 15-20 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the sauce thickens.
  • Remove from heat and allow it to cool to room temperature.
