Instructions
Step 1: Make The Dough
In a large bowl, mix warm water, sugar, and yeast. Let it sit for 5 minutes until frothy.
Add the eggs, egg yolks, and vanilla. Stir until combined.
Gradually mix in flour and salt, alternating with the softened butter.
Knead the dough by hand or with a stand mixer for about 8–10 minutes until it’s smooth and elastic.
Step 2: Proofing The Dough
After greasing a bowl, put the dough in it and cover it with a moist towel.
Let it proof in a warm spot for 1 ½ to 2 hours or until it doubles in size.
Step 3: Shape The Donuts
On a surface dusted with flour, roll out the dough until it is about ½ inch thick.
Use a round cutter (or a glass!) to cut out donuts. Don’t forget to make the donut holes—these are little treats on their own!
Place the dough rounds on a parchment-lined tray and let them proof for another 30 minutes.
Step 4: Fry To Perfection
Heat oil in a deep pot to 350°F.
Fry 2–3 donuts at a time for 1–2 minutes on each side until golden.
Remove and drain on paper towels.
Step 5: Add The Sugar Topping
Place the donuts in a bowl of sugar while they are still warm (mix with cinnamon if you like!).
Let them cool slightly—and enjoy!
