Ingredients

  • 1 cup unsalted butter
  • 2 tablespoons minced garlic
  • 1 tablespoon paprika
  • 2 teaspoons cayenne pepper adjust to taste
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1 teaspoon dried thyme
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon lemon zest
  • 2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tablespoon hot sauce adjust to taste
  • 1/2 cup beer optional, can be substituted with broth
  • Salt to taste
  • Fresh lemon juice from 1 lemon

Instructions

Prepare The Base

  • In a medium-sized saucepan, melt the unsalted butter over low heat. Finely chop the garlic and add it, sautéing it until aromatic but not browned. This creates the flavorful foundation of our sauce.

Spice It Up

  • Stir in the paprika, cayenne pepper, onion powder, dried thyme, dried oregano, and black pepper. Cook for about 1-2 minutes until the spices are well combined and aromatic. This step infuses the butter with all the rich flavors and spices that define the Hook and Reel Sauce.

Add The Liquid Ingredients

  • Gradually whisk in the Worcestershire sauce, hot sauce, and beer (or broth) to the spice and butter mixture. Simmer on low heat for about 5 minutes, allowing the sauce to thicken slightly and the flavors to meld together.

Final Touches

  • Finish the sauce with lemon zest and fresh lemon juice, stirring well to incorporate. Season with salt to taste. Let the sauce simmer for an additional 2-3 minutes, then remove from heat.
