Ingredients

For The Base:

  • 1 cup of ketchup
  • 1/2 cup of Louisiana hot sauce
  • 1/4 cup of apple cider vinegar
  • 1/4 cup of Worcestershire sauce
  • 1/4 cup of brown sugar
  • 2 cloves of garlic minced
  • 1 teaspoon of onion powder
  • 1 teaspoon of smoked paprika
  • 1 teaspoon of cayenne pepper
  • Salt and black pepper to taste

Optional Additions:

  • 1 teaspoon of liquid smoke for a smoky flavor
  • 1 tablespoon of horseradish for extra heat
  • 1 tablespoon of honey for a touch of sweetness
  • 1/4 cup of finely chopped celery for texture

Instructions

Step 1: Mixing The Base

  • Combine the ketchup, Louisiana hot sauce, apple cider vinegar, Worcestershire sauce, and brown sugar in a skillet over medium heat. Brown sugar should be well dissolved by stirring.

Step 2: Adding Flavor

  • To the mixture, add the minced garlic, onion powder, smoked paprika, cayenne, salt, and black pepper. Now is the ideal time to add the liquid smoke if you want to give the dish a smokey flavor.

Step 3: Simmering

  • Reduce the heat to low and let the sauce simmer for about 15-20 minutes. Stir occasionally to prevent it from sticking to the bottom of the pan.

Step 4: Optional Ingredients

  • If you want to customize your sauce, add horseradish, honey, or finely chopped celery at this stage. Adjust the quantities according to your taste preferences.

Step 5: Cooling And Storing

  • Once your Louisiana Licker Sauce reaches your desired consistency, remove it from heat and let it cool. Transfer it to an airtight container and store it in the refrigerator. The flavors will continue to develop over time.
