Ingredients

For The Fried Mushrooms:

  • 1 lb 450g button mushrooms, cleaned and stems removed
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 2 eggs beaten
  • 1 cup breadcrumbs
  • Oil for frying
  • Salt and pepper to taste

For The Dipping Sauce:

  • 1/2 cup mayonnaise
  • 1 tablespoon horseradish adjusted to taste
  • 2 teaspoons ketchup
  • 1 teaspoon mustard
  • 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
  • A pinch of paprika
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

Preparing The Fried Mushrooms

  • Prepare The Coating: Start by setting up your coating station with three shallow bowls: one for flour seasoned with salt and pepper, one for beaten eggs, and one for breadcrumbs.
  • Coat The Mushrooms: Dip each mushroom first in the flour mixture, then the beaten eggs, and finally, coat them thoroughly in the breadcrumbs.
  • Fry The Mushrooms: Heat oil in a deep fryer or a large pan to 375°F (190°C). Fry the mushrooms in batches until golden brown and crispy, about 3-5 minutes. Using a slotted spoon, remove and place on paper towels to drain.

Making The Dipping Sauce

  • Combine Ingredients: In a mixing bowl, whisk together mayonnaise, horseradish, ketchup, mustard, Worcestershire sauce, paprika, salt, and pepper until smooth.
  • Adjust To Taste: Taste the sauce and adjust the seasoning or horseradish according to your preference for a more personalized touch.
